Rotational molder Elkhart Plastics Inc. is investing $3 million to expand its factory in Littleton, Colo., and add machinery.

Site preparation began in October for a 35,000-square-foot expansion, which includes 31,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 4,000 square feet of offices. Currently, the factory measures 45,000 square feet.

Elkhart Plastics President Jack Welter said the Colorado plant will add 15 to 20 new jobs next summer. The expansion should be completed in the second quarter of 2014.

A larger factory is needed to meet increased demand from current customer and anticipated new business, company officials said.

Elkhart also has purchased a Ferry 370 independent-arm rotomolding machine — its sixth rotomolder in Littleton — and two Quintax five-axis CNC routers.

Elkhart Plastics is working with Douglas County in Colorado on tax incentives for the expansion.
